Standard of Performance

Construction Duties

  • Responsible for assisting the Superintendent in all aspects of on-site management including, but not limited to: quality control, job safety, scheduling, monitoring Ivy North Corporation costs, jobsite paperwork, receiving and safeguarding materials, and jobsite cleanliness.
  • Maintain positive relationship with Client, Architect, Engineering contacts, Government representatives and other project stakeholders to facilitate Construction activities, while assisting the Superintendent in keeping everyone informed and involved.
  • Assist Superintendent with the set up of all equipment, furniture, utilities, and interior layout of the field office.
  • Assist Superintendent with detailed review of all plans and specifications.
  • Label all plans and maintain organized plan filing system. Report all inconsistencies and discrepancies in writing to the Project Manager.
  • Assist Superintendent with the planning and supervision of all onsite employees and subcontractor activities, including but not limited to, determining method of construction, manpower levels, material quantities, equipment requirements, temporary power sources, work schedule, and documenting actual hours worked.
  • Assist Superintendent in preparation of master job schedule in coordination with Project Manager and provide at minimum weekly update information.
  • Update Project Manager as to any needed logic or activity changes as job progresses to improve schedule’s use. Utilize schedule with two week look ahead to anticipate needs and control project. Prepare additional short term schedules as needed to coordinate work and convey to trades.
  • Assist Superintendent with Coordination of assigned work with work of different crafts, company departments, or other contractors and subcontractors to help ensure construction complies with drawings and specifications.
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion while supervising work being completed by subcontractors, and may be required to make decisions on the fly, answer questions, and/or provide direction to subcontractors.
  • Walk the job daily with the Superintendent. Be involved with every subcontractor. Discuss problems and conditions with subcontractors.
  • Insist on quality of work and cooperation by subcontractors. Do not allow unacceptable or inferior to be installed on the project site. Should inferior work be installed, ensure that it is corrected immediately.
  • Responsible for assisting the Superintendent with the coordination, creation, implementation and completion of quality checklists, punch lists, etc.
  • Assist Superintendent in resolving construction problems (lack of productivity, work interfaces, etc.) as required.
  • Advise Superintendent of potential problems, work interference, schedule difficulties, etc.; assist in circumventing/resolving such problems as required.
  • Assist Superintendent in monitoring employee and craft compliance with project safety program requirements, documenting as necessary, ensuring corrective measures are implemented, and conduct regularly scheduled safety meetings.
  • Assist Superintendent in maintaining an updated set of subcontract and purchase order files, as well as an accurate record of what materials are stored on site and what materials are yet to be delivered.
  • Assist Superintendent in maintaining a current set of as-built documents.
  • Attend all jobsite meetings with engineers, architects, project manager, owner, government entities and other applicable parties to ensure work complies with drawings, specifications, and schedule.
  • Assist Superintendent in conducting weekly (or more often if needed) job scheduling meetings to coordinate subcontractors, and maintain meeting minutes.
  • Assist Superintendent in conducting weekly (or more often if needed) safety meetings, and maintain meeting minutes.
  • Ensure staff and vendors working on site are applying safety principles appropriately on the jobsite, make statements and ask questions to ensure staff is thinking about safety, take actions to ensure implementation of safety program when necessary.
  • Develop a familiarity and understanding of the requirements of the Owner/Ivy North agreement for the project.
  • Understand and be familiar with the date by which all materials must arrive on the job, and convey that information to the project superintendent for preparation of the contract items lists and shop drawing schedules. Assist project superintendent in following for deliveries.
  • Attend the weekly foreman and superintendents meetings. Assist in maintaining the minutes of these meetings, and ensure they are recorded and distributed.
  • Attend weekly safety meetings, regular toolbox talks, and safety pre task meetings as required.
  • Prepare the daily construction reports in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Serve as liaison with labor representatives on the project. Assist in the managing of all Labor on the project, both Subcontract and HRCG Labor.
  • Understand and ensure risk controls are properly established and maintained.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the project team for purposes of updates on the status of the fieldwork and communication of any issues requiring the input or action of others on the project team, and for notification to the project team of issues that may be of importance or interest to them.
  • Establish and maintain a system of document control to assure work is being installed in accordance with the latest design documentation and approved shop drawings.
  • Communicate any issues requiring additional information from designers in a timely fashion to the project manager for issuance of RFI’s.
  • Assist in preparation of the monthly status report to be submitted to the client.
  • Assure monthly job progress photographs are taken in ample quantity to accurately depict the progress of the work.
  • Assure the required permits and approvals from jurisdictional agencies are secured, posted, and renewed as required prior to starting work.
  • Participate in foreman performance reviews
  • Maintain relationships with customers, architects, union representatives, subcontractors, etc.
  • Take care of and properly use company resources to ensure perpetuation of the organization for future generations
  • Manage site work and logistics efficiently, looking for ways to improve
  • Manage strategies to address underutilization and/or inclusiveness

Qualifications & Experience 

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in the construction industry, or equivalent combinations of education and experience.
  • Ability to work long, unsupervised hours, including the possibility of working during “off hours” and/or weekends.
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Skills & Knowledge Requirements 

  • Intermediate computer skills required
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project
  • Ability to read and decipher plans easily
  • Current Health & Safety Certifications as per OHSA
